Area political parties hold caucuses on Feb. 27
DFL party reviews environmental issues; support for Ukraine and Gaza
Caucus night was Tuesday, Feb. 27, and members of the DFL (Democratic-Farmer-Labor) party met in both Wells and Blue Earth.
Due to weather conditions, only seven people attended the caucus in Wells, and eight DFL party members were at the caucuses in Blue Earth.
Each caucus, in addition to attending to organization matters, also took time to consider resolutions they may wish to support.
Many of the resolutions the caucuses considered came from the DFL Statewide Rural Caucus.
A number of the resolutions dealt with natural resources and the environment. One urged opposition to any attempt to weaken environmental laws and protections while another called for policies to reduce or eliminate the use of unsafe pesticides.
Another resolution called for support in developing sustainable regional food systems and regenerative farming practices while a separate resolution called for opposition to the construction of carbon dioxide pipelines in Minnesota.
There were also resolutions calling for safe drinking water for all and support for affordable housing.
Those attending the Wells caucus added a resolution of their own which called for a restoration of the Roe vs. Wade decision.
Over in Blue Earth the people attending the DFL caucus passed resolutions supporting Ukraine and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, and another one addressing corporate greed in the United States.
