Biden, Trump, top picks for county voters

Faribault County voters followed the trend of voters across Minnesota – and 14 other states voting on Super Tuesday – by selecting Donald Trump and Joe Biden as their choices for presidential candidates.

Voters in Faribault County went to the polls on Tuesday, March 5, to cast their votes on the Presidential Primary Election ballots that were for three political parties.

A total of 1,701 ballots were cast in Faribault County, with 1,348 filled out on election day and 353 turned in earlier by mail or in person.

There are 8,402 registered voters in the county, which means there was a 20.25 percent turnout for this primary election.

Of the 1,701 ballots cast, 1,357, or 79.78 percent, were for the Republican party candidate selection.

Former president Donald Trump was the top Republican vote getter out of the five names on the ballot. He received 1,052 votes, or 77.64 percent. Nikki Haley had 258 votes in Faribault County, or 19.04 percent.

Ron DeSantis had 27 votes, Vivek Ramswamy had nine, Chris Christie eight and there was one write-in vote.

The DFL Party had 333 votes cast in the county, with 252 (75.68 percent) of the voter going with current president Joseph Biden.

Former Minnesota Congressman Dean Phillips had 31 votes in the county, Uncommitted had 28 votes and Marianne Williamson had 12. Jason Palmer and Cenk Uygur each had four votes, Eban Cambridge one and there was one write-in vote.

The third party ballot was the Legal Marijuana Now party, which had 10 voters, only one of the ballots was blank.

Krystal Gabel led the five person list on the ballot, with five votes, or 55.56 percent. Vermin Supreme and Dennis Schuller each had two votes.

Statewide the results in Minnesota were very similar to those in Faribault County.

On the Republican Party ballot Donald Trump received 232,874 votes, or 68.95 percent of the total. Nikki Haley had 97,184 votes, or 28.77 percent of the total votes cast.

Ron DeSantis had 4,084 votes, Vivek Ramaswamy had 1,470 and Chris Christie had 1,431.

There were 720 write-in votes.

The DFL Party ballot had Joseph Biden with 171,279 votes, or 70.11 percent of the vote.

Uncommitted had 45,913 votes, Dean Phillips had 18,960 votes and there were 2,000 write-in votes.

Six other DFL candidates all had less than 1,000 votes each.

On the Legal Marijuana Now ballot, Krystal Gabel was the top vote-getter with 760 votes.

Write-ins had the next highest total with 484, while Dennis Schuller had 459 and Vermin Supreme had 397. Three other candidates had less than that.
