Fire at Becker hog farm damages shed

Three fire departments respond to the call Thursday

By Staff | Mar 10, 2024

The Blue Earth Fire Department responded to a fire call at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 7 at the Mike Becker farm, northeast of Blue Earth.

A workshop/storage building was on fire when the firemen arrived.

“We had a pretty quick response,” Blue Earth fire chief Steve Brown says. “Our initial attack was able to knock down most of the fire and contain it.”

The Blue Earth Fire Department received mutual aid from the Winnebago and Delavan Fire Departments, Brown said, helping with manpower and water supply.

Brown says the State Fire Marshall was on the scene and the cause of the fire is still under investigation and is inconclusive at this time.

The fire department was on the scene for approximately two and a half hours.

It was the second fire on the Becker farm in recent years. In October of 2020, the Blue Earth Fire Department was called to the Becker farm because of two hog barn fires.
