Blue Earth and Elmore firemen worked to extinguish a garage fire in Elmore last Thursday evening. The garage was called a total loss.

Just around an hour after his garage had burned to the ground, an Elmore man was involved in a two vehicle accident on Thursday evening, March 14.

The fire happened around 5 p.m. on the west side of Elmore and the accident happened in rural Elmore at 6:33 p.m., according to a report from the Faribault County Sheriff’s Office.

The accident happened at the intersection of 30th Street and 370th Avenue and involved two pickup trucks.

A 2021 GMC Sierra pickup, driven by Lucas Joseph Johnson, 37, of Fairmont, was traveling eastbound on 30th Street.

Nicholas Andrew Uecker, 40, of Elmore, was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck north on 370th Avenue.

Uecker failed to yield at a yield sign at the intersection and his vehicle struck the GMC Sierra pickup.

Both drivers were treated for suspected minor injuries and released from the scene by the UHD Ambulance personnel. Both were the only persons in their vehicles.

Uecker was cited for failure to yield at a yield sign, driving after license revocation and reckless driving. The crash continues to be under investigation by the Faribault County Sheriff’s Office.

Uecker’s garage in Elmore had burned earlier in the afternoon. Firefighters from both the Elmore and Blue Earth fire departments worked to extinguish the blaze.

The garage was determined to be a total loss.
