The first of several filing periods for the General Election which will be held on Nov. 5 has begun.

The filing period for most federal, state and county offices began this past Tuesday, May 21, and continues to Tuesday, June 4.

In Faribault County, there are three county commissioners whose terms are up. They are the seats currently held by Bruce Anderson, John Roper and Bill Groskruetz.

All three commissioners had refiled for their County Board positions, but no other persons had filed as of last Thursday.

Anderson serves Commissioner District 5 which is composed of Minnesota Lake Township, City of Minnesota Lake, Foster Township, City of Walters, Walnut Lake Township, Brush Creek Township, City of Bricelyn, Seely Township, City of Kiester and Kies- ter Township.

Roper serves Commissioner District 1 which is composed of Blue Earth Township, Ward 3 of City of Blue Earth, Elmore Township, City of Elmore, Rome Township, City of Frost and Emerald Township.

Groskreutz serves District 3 which is composed of Clark Township, City of Wells and Dunbar Township.

Anyone wishing to file for any of the three County Board seats can do so during regular hours at the Faribault County Courthouse in Blue Earth.

According to the County Auditor’s Office, no other elected county officers’ positions are open this year.

There is one exception for this filing period. Presidential candidates of major parties have until Aug. 30 to file, and non-major parties have until Aug. 20 to file.

The one addition to this filing period is for cities and school districts that hold primaries. Most cities and school districts use the later filing period of Tuesday, July 30 through Tuesday, Aug. 13.

Statewide the U.S. Senate seat held by Amy Klobuchar is up for election as are all of the eight Congressional seats.

No state Senate seats are up for election, but all of the 134 state House seats are open.

In House seats that cover Faribault County, incumbent Peggy Bennett (GOP) and Joe Staloch (DFL) have filed in District 23A.

In District 22A no one had filed as of Thursday, including incumbent Bjorn Olson (GOP).

Candidates for all of these positions have until June 4 to file.
