Three file for County Board seat
Baldwin, Paschke, to challenge John Roper
Two more people filed for the office of County Commissioner for District 1 in Faribault County.
Brenda Baldwin and Gertrude Paschke both filed for the District 1 seat currently held by John Roper before the filing deadline ended this past Tuesday, June 4.
Three seats on the County Board were up for election this year; District 1 with incumbent John Roper, District 3 with incumbent Bill Groskreutz and District 5 with current commissioner Bruce Anderson.
All three incumbents filed early in the filing period.
Because there is now a three-way race for the District 1 seat between incumbent Roper and challengers Baldwin and Paschke, there will be a Primary Election ballot to determine which two of those candidates will face off in the Nov. 5 General Election.
All of the candidates have until 5 p.m. on Thursday, June 6, to withdraw their name from the election ballot. If that happens in District 1, then there will be no need for a Primary Election runoff.
Commissioner District 1 is composed of Blue Earth Township, Ward 3 of City of Blue Earth, Elmore Township, City of Elmore, Rome Township, City of Frost and Emerald Township.
Other local area state office filings include several incumbents and challengers.

In State Legislative District 22A, which includes the western one-third of Faribault County, Marisa Ulmen (DFL) has filed as has incumbent Bjorn Olson (GOP).
No State Senate seats are up for election this year.

There is one exception for this filing period. Presidential candidates of major parties have until Aug. 30 to file, and non-major parties have until Aug. 20 to file.
