You probably get some packages from Amazon or elsewhere arriving on your doorstep every once in a while.

But, you probably have not had a package delivered that weighed over 54,000 pounds, was shipped from Italy, and arrived on a semi-tractor trailer and took a crew a day to uncrate and move into position.

However, that is pretty much what happened at Winnebago Manufacturing in Blue Earth’s West Industrial Park two weeks ago.

In a massive wooden box was a new machine that has the official name of a CNC-controlled Bystronic Xpert Pro Press Brake.

This latest machine in the Winnebago Manufacturing Blue Earth plant will be able to precisely bend pieces of steel that are up to 14 feet long and a half inch thick.

“It will allow us to serve our customers better and faster,” Winnebago Manufacturing president Daryle Pomranke says. “This latest press brake will also be more precise as well as faster.”

It was not that long ago the company added a ROUNDO R-6 with CNC for bar, angle, tube, channel and I-beam rolling.

The new Xpert Pro Press Brake is not the only piece of equipment that Winnebago Manufacturing has purchased from the company in Italy.

“It is difficult to find this kind of specialized equipment in the U.S.,” Pomranke says. “So we have to get the equipment where we can, even if it has to be shipped from Italy.”

After the huge crate arrived, a crew from Ramsey, Minnesota did the work of getting the massive box into the building and lifted into position, before it was uncrated.

Another crew from the factory in Italy was going to arrive this week to set the machine up and train the Winnebago Manufacturing workers how to run it.

“It is a big investment for us,” Pomranke says. “But we have good support from our customers, so it will certainly be worthwhile.”
