EDA makes plans for a Job Fair on Aug. 6
Paulette Legred is honored with July Business Spotlight award
Paulette Legred, middle, was presented with the July Business Spotlight award by EDA specialist, Amber Patten, left, and EDA board member, Lars Bierly, right. Legred is the owner of Lis’n, a company that produces and markets professional hair care and beauty products.
Fresh off the heels of helping host a very successful Vet Camp in June, the Faribault County Economic Development Authority has been busy planning for other upcoming events.
“The Vet Camp took place on June 26 and included an interactive education program for students in grades 6-12 who are interested in the field of veterinary medicine,” EDA specialist Celia Simpson said. “We had a good turnout for the event which included field trips to Goette Farms and the Blue Earth Locker. The kids had a great time and everyone enjoyed the experience. A special thanks to the University of Minnesota for their wonderful presentation which included many hands-on activities.”
Looking ahead, a Job Fair is scheduled for Aug. 6 and a Faribault and Martin Counties Manufacturing Tour is set to take place on Oct. 16.
“We have six businesses signed up so far for the Job Fair,” EDA specialist Bethany Walker reported. “We will have a food truck and the Rolling Cones truck at the event so people can get a bite to eat while attending the Job Fair.”
The manufacturing tour will visit businesses in both Martin and Faribault Counties.
“The businesses we will visit in Faribault County are Herman Manufacturing, Ron’s Plumbing, HVAC and Electric, Greenfield Global, Everidge and Tafco,” EDA specialist Amber Patten commented. “We are beginning to promote the event and I am working on lining up transportation for the day.”
While reviewing the financial reports for the EDA, Simpson pointed out that Heartland Retreat and Rental Hall had paid off their loan balance of $10,155.
“All of our other loans are current except for Miller’s Corner Repair which went through foreclosure proceedings,” Simpson said. “Regarding the Miller’s Corner property, we cannot insure it until we officially take ownership of it later in the year. The delinquent taxes on the property for 2023 are $1,024 and the taxes due for this year total $1,534.”
The July 2024 Business Spotlight award was presented to Paulette Legred, the owner of Lis’n, a company that makes and sells professional hair care and beauty products.
“I lived on a farm my whole life and I also worked for major manufacturers such as Matrix,” Legred said. “My products are naturally derived from farm products.”
Now in it’s seventh year, Legred says Lis’n sells predominantly to salons and consumers.
“Faribault County has been very supportive of my company,” Legred comments. “Ultimate Design in Wells, Sassy Cuts in Minnesota Lake and Huntington’s, Refresh Salon and Sandy’s Salon in Blue Earth are all Lis’n salons.”
Legred explains that all of her products are bottled in an FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approved lab in Minneapolis.
“They are mixed professionally,” she notes. “Then, I sell and ship the product from my home. One of the challenges is getting your product in front of people online. It is also a hurdle competing with bigger companies who will buy your space out at a salon.”

Next month’s EDA meeting was set for Aug. 20, in Minnesota Lake.
