Roper and Paschke moving on
Will face off in Nov. 5 election for County Bd.
Incumbent county commissioner John Roper will be facing off against challenger Gertrude Paschke in the General Election to be held on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
Roper, Paschke and Brenda Baldwin all filed to run for the open commissioner seat in District 1. This meant the three would first have to face off in the Primary Election which was held this past Tuesday, Aug. 13.
The top two vote getters would then face each other in the General Election in November.
Paschke, the challenger, was actually the top vote getter in the Primary, garnering a total of 171 votes (48.86 percent).
Roper came in with 113 votes (32.29 percent) and Baldwin had 66 votes (18.86 percent).
Only voters in Commissioner District 1 could vote for their choice. Commissioner District 1 is composed of Blue Earth Township, Ward 3 of City of Blue Earth, Elmore Township, City of Elmore, Rome Township, City of Frost and Emerald Township.
Also on the Primary Election ballot last Tuesday were choices for both the Republican (GOP) and Democrat (DFL) parties for candidates for state and federal offices that will be on the Nov. 5 ballot.
For the First Congressional District, incumbent Brad Finstad was the overwhelming choice among three to choose from on the GOP Primary ballot. He had 30,059 votes to 1,409 for Gregory A. Goetzman and 1,599 for Shawn Tweten.
Finstad also was the choice of Faribault County voters who gave him 786 votes to 60 for Tweten and 39 for Goetzman.
For U.S. Senator candidates, incumbent Amy Klobuchar was the top choice among Democrats, getting far more votes statewide than her four competitors. In Faribault County she was also the top choice with 435 votes.
On the GOP ballot it was Royce White who took the most votes and will be the one to face Klobuchar in the General Election.
However, Faribault County GOP voters went with Joe Fraser. Fraser had 301 votes in the county (35.12 percent) and White had 202 (23.57 percent). There were six other choices on the GOP ballot besides Fraser and White.
