While the state of Minnesota did not follow the national results of electing Donald Trump as president, the residents of Faribault County did.

In fact, in Faribault County the vote was more than 2 to 1 in favor of Trump over Kamala Harris.

The local vote was 5,247 for Trump and 2,352 for Harris, or 67.61 percent to 30.31 percent.

The next highest vote getter for president by Faribault County voters was Robert F. Kennedy Jr. with 82 votes. There were nine candidates for president on the ballot and all of them got at lease one vote. There also was a total of 22 write-in votes.

In the race for U.S. Senator for Minnesota, the state picked incumbent DFLer Amy Klobuchar. However, voters in Faribault County went with the Republican candidate, Royce White.

White had 4,305 votes and Klobuchar had 3,091, or 56.13 percent to 40.30 percent. There were also two other candidates who received 139 and 129 votes and also six write-in votes.

The Republican trend continued in the county for other federal and state offices.

Republican incumbent Brad Finstad was the overwhelming choice for U.S. House of Representatives for Congressional District 1.

Finstad had 5,418 votes in the county to 2,214 for DFL challenger Rachel Bohman, or 70.93 percent to 28.99 percent.

District wide Finstad won 15,904 to 8,943.

In State Representative District 22A, incumbent Republican Bjorn Olson had an even higher percentage in Faribault County. He received 2,652 votes to DFL challenger Marisa Ulmen’s 888 votes, 74.85 percent to 25.06 percent.

District wide Olson won 15,700 to 6,896.

In State Representative District 23A, incumbent Republican Peggy Bennett received 2,815 votes in Faribault County to DFL challenger Joe Staloch’s 1,271 votes, or 68.83 percent to 31.08 percent.

District wide Bennett won 15,554 to 7,379.
