W’bago plant is for sale

Greenfield put ethanol plant on the market

By Chuck Hunt - Editor | Jan 26, 2025

The ethanol plant in Winnebago is going up for sale at auction, according to an article in Ethanol Producer Magazine.

The plant has been owned by Canada-based Greenfield Global, Inc. since 2020.

It was originally owned by Corn Plus and began operations in 1994. Corn Plus had ceased operations in September of 2019 and then sold it to Greenfield Global in 2020, with that company starting the plant back up in late 2021.

The plant has not ceased operations at this time and is fully staffed. In the past reports put the number of employees at 48.

Non-binding indications of interest are due on Jan. 27, according to the story in the Ethanol Producer Magazine. Greenfield Global has retained Chabina Energy Partners LLC as its exclusive financial advisor to sell the Winnebago facility, according to the story in the magazine.

Greenfield Global is expected to look over the letters of interest and may elect to deal with one of the prospective bidders. According to the magazine, the company may also elect to hold a formal auction of the plant, which would be held on Jan. 29.

The magazine quotes Chabina Energy Partners as the reason for the decision to sell the Winnebago plant is it “reflects Greenfield’s commitment to concentrating its resources on initiatives that more closely align with its long-term growth strategy.”
