CADA closing Blue Earth office as of end of May

But still will offer services to all victims of violence in the county

Brittany Wojtowicz is the assistant director of CADA (Committee Against Domestic Abuse) and will become the director on July 1.

The Committee Against Domestic Abuse (CADA) is planning to close three of their outreach offices, including the one in Blue Earth which serves Faribault County.

That office has been located in the Faribault County Register Office Building for many years.

In a news release, CADA explained that they will be closing their single-person-staffed offices in St. James, St. Peter and Blue Earth.

They will be keeping their regional offices open to continue to serve victims of abuse, CADA officials say. Those regional hub offices are in Mankato, Waseca, New Ulm and Fairmont.

CADA assistant director Brittany Wojtowicz confirmed in an interview with the Faribault County Register last week that the last day the office in Blue Earth will be in place is May 31.

“But, actually we have not had an advocate in Blue Earth for some time, so everything is already being handled by a hub office,” Wojtowicz said. “So it has already been happening.”

She explained that many of the survivors of abuse that CADA assists feel comfortable being assisted with information both in person and remotely.

“We provide a 24-7 (24 hours a day, seven days a week) crisis response,” Wojtowicz explained. “Right after the violent incident we give the victims advice and help with short term safety, legal options, emotional support, and it is all done confidentially.”

CADA also offers long-term assistance, or they point out other community services the victims may need. Some of those in Faribault County include a women’s shelter in Wells and the Women of Worth group.

CADA also announced that the realignment of the offices and staff will reduce overhead costs while still maintaining services.

“It is due in part to funding and the future of funding,” Wojtowicz said. “But we are committed to doing the best we can with what we have for funding.”

CADA was started as an idea in 1979 by four women, and then began operating in 1981.

The office in Blue Earth has had a series of advocates working alone in the office over the past years. The office here started soon after CADA itself started, Wojtowicz said.

Wojtowicz has been with CADA for 12 years. Starting July 1 she will become the CADA director, replacing Jason Mack who is stepping down after serving as the director for the past eight years.
