Healey Homes in Blue Earth has apparently shut down operations, according to some reports, although those reports have not been confirmed.

One employee reported on Tuesday that he and others were all let go that morning.

A request from the Faribault County Register to the company for any clarification or comment was returned by a representative of the company simply as “we have no comment at the moment.”

Healey Homes operates housing for people with developmental difficulties. A story in the Register in December of 2022 reported that instead of a group home, Healey Homes purchased one home for each one of their clients.

The story reported that in 2022, Healey Homes had 11 such houses in Blue Earth, with one client in each one. The story also reported how Healey Homes was using innovative techniques to give their clients a better life. Those included finding them jobs, taking them on vacations and having sporting competitions for them.

However, the State of Minnesota Department of Human Services conducted a licensing review of Healey Homes in Blue Earth on May 19, 2025.

On July 1, 2025 the Department of Human Services sent Healey Homes a correction order that contained 19 violations of Minnesota Statutes and ordered corrective actions be taken on all 19 violations within 30 days.

Most of the violations had to do with lack of orientation on reporting procedures, providing proper training and protection of a person’s rights under the law, and did not maintain policies and procedures relating to grievances, among other things.

The order also stated that if the violations were not corrected in the prescribed time as stated, the commissioner of the Department of Human Services could issue an Order of Conditional License or may impose a fine or licensing sanctions.

The former employee stated that he was told they were “closing the doors this morning,” and that they were told the state had discontinued their funding.

In the story from December of 2022 in the Register, it was reported that Healey Homes had 50 employees and most of them were full time. All of the clients had workers who helped them out, drive them to appointments and more.

Most of the clients had jobs, with some working at STEP or have jobs through STEP. Some work at a nursing home, Pizza Hut and Juba’s.

Healey Homes also had a subsidiary business called K&C Moving and Chores which hired the clients to do moving jobs and cleaning jobs.

If the Healey Homes business is shut down, it joins the ranks of some other Blue Earth businesses that have suddenly closed up in the past couple of years, including Sister Care on Nicollet Street, which was a senior residence.
