Democrats held a caucus at BEA School on Tuesday

There was a large turnout of people at the DFL caucus in Blue Earth that was held at the Media Center at Blue Earth Area High School on Tuesday.

Almost 40 Faribault County Democrats turned out to attend the DFL (Democratic-Farmer-Labor) precinct caucus on Tuesday, Feb. 3 in Blue Earth. Dan Woodring, the current DFL chair for Faribault County, oversaw the proceedings.

The caucus, in addition to attending to organization matters, also took time to consider resolutions they may wish to support.

A few resolutions that had been considered at the DFL Statewide Rural Caucus were also presented for discussion.

A number of resolutions brought forth by the attendees sought ways to seek legal action against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers in the wake of the violence, illegal detainment, and deportation of U.S. citizens across the state. Chief among these was a resolution which supported the creation of a Bivens bill, an idea initially championed by DFL representative Jamie Long, which would allow citizens to seek legal recourse for the violation of their 4th Amendment rights at the hands of ICE agents.

Another resolution proposed restoring Voice of America, which president Donald Trump has repeatedly sought to dismantle along with its parent organization, the U.S. Agency for Global Media, by putting all of its employees on leave and defunding the program.

There were also resolutions seeking the reinstatement of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), which received major cutbacks in 2025 and had its remaining functions transferred to the United States Department of State, as well as one that stated that any representative acting on behalf of the state or nation should be banned from trading individual stocks or cryptocurrencies so long as they are in office.

Candidate statements from DFL candidates Angie Hanson and Amy Klobuchar were read aloud to conclude the hour-long meeting.
