Mildred C. Cherland, 94
Blue Earth — Mildred C. Cherland, age 94, of Blue Earth, died Jan. 6, 2008, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center, Blue Earth. Funeral services were held on Jan. 10, 2008, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blue Earth, with Rev. Stephen Bohling and Rev. Mark Wilms officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Blue Earth. Patton Funeral Home and Cremation Service was in charge of arrangements.
Mildred was born July 19, 1913, in rural Faribault County, MN, the daughter of Andrew and Anna (Johnson) Kallestad.
She was raised and educated in the Blue Earth area where she was a 1932 graduate of Blue Earth High School. After high school she took her teachers training in Blue Earth and then taught country school near Frost. She was married to Carroll A. Cherland on May 29, 1936 in Blue Earth. Mildred was a homemaker and had worked in several area business including at Schwen’s Ice Cream, Green Giant Company and at the hospital as a nurses aide. The couple moved to Rochester in 1971 and Mildred returned to Blue Earth following her husband’s death in 1994. She was a very active member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she was involved in her church circle, Ladies Aid and helped teach release time students and Sunday School.
Mildred is survived by her son, Craig (Colette) Cherland of Eagan, her son, Bruce (Darlene) Cherland of Edina, daughter, Kathleen Park of San Francisco, her daughter, Marlys (Eugene) Kaiser of Brainerd, her sister-in-law, Kathryn Cherland of Blue Earth, her brother-in-law, Richard (Margaret) Cherland of Banning, Calif., 10 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1994, an infant daughter Marilyn Cherland and 10 sisters and two brothers.
