Eileen Elizabeth Wehr, 86
Kiester — Eileen Elizabeth Wehr, age 86, of Kiester, died June 25, 2008 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center in Blue Earth. A Memorial Service was held June 27, 2008 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center in the Chapel, Blue Earth. Pastor Karl Rydholm officiated.
Bruss-Heitner Funeral Homes was in charge of arrangements.
Eileen E. Wehr was born Dec. 28, 1921, in Winnebago, the daughter of Lulu Stauffer Smith. She was educated in Winnebago public and rural school districts. In 1941, Eileen was united in marriage to Julius Frey in Blue Earth. The couple lived in Blue Earth for five years before they began farming. The couple lived on farms in rural Blue Earth, Elmore, Bricelyn, Kiester and Walters before Julius’ death in October 1959. In 1964, she married Harry Wehr in Kiester. Harry preceded her in death in 1988. Eileen lived in Kiester until moving to Crescent Apartments in Blue Earth and then to St. Luke’s Care Center.
Eileen worked at many different jobs besides caring for her family. She did housekeeping, wall papering and painting for others, cleaned churches and worked at Green Giant Cannery in Blue Earth, Stokley’s in Winnebago, and helped with the farm work. Eileen drove a school bus for the Kiester Public School, and retired after 20 years of service. Eileen was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Walters, where she directed a children’s choir for a time. After moving to Kiester, she became an active member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. She especially enjoyed the LCW, her circle and the Bible studies. Harry and Eileen enjoyed camping. Eileen was always active in her family’s school activities. Eileen enjoyed traveling with her family. She was always interested in experiencing and learning new things. For many years, Eileen did crossword puzzles that kept her mind sharp. She had a large vocabulary that made her a daunting Scrabble opponent. Eileen’s flowers and vegetable gardens were the envy of the neighborhood.
Eileen is survived by three daughters and three sons: Bonnie (Gordon) Miller of Blue Earth, Sue (Rudolph) Loy of Cane Ridge, Tenn., Linda (David) Groskreutz of Wells, Steven (Bibi) Frey of Belfair, Wash., Tommy (Denise) Frey of Mason City, Iowa, and Kevin (Val) Frey of New Hampton, Iowa; 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; two sisters: Laura Blomgren of Winnebago, Lela Kuhn of Fulton, Texas; one brother: John Kuhn of Texas; along with several nieces, nephews and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, her mother, step-father: Otto Kuhn; brothers: Esley Smith, Cecil Smith and Dale Kuhn; and two sisters: Lila Johnson and Elsie Martin.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center.
