Douglas E. “Vern” Kuhn, 49

Forest City, Iowa — Douglas E. “Vern” Kuhn, age 49 of Forest City, Iowa, died Sept. 4, 2008, at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in mid-August.

A memorial service was held Sept. 8, 2008, at the United Methodist Church in Buffalo Center, Iowa, Pastor Shannon Pascual officiated.

The inurnment was a private family service held at Rose Hill Cemetery in Winnebago.

Doulgas Eugene Kuhn was born in Blue Earth on Feb. 14, 1959, the son of Dale and Betty (Ihle) Kuhn. He received his education in Blue Earth and graduated from Blue Earth High School in 1978. He worked at Red Owl in Blue Earth for several years.

He moved to Wells and began working at Swift and also on the farm for Loren Bidne in Kiester. In 1995, Vern began working for Winnebago Industries in Forest City, moving to town several years later. From day one, a co-worker said he looked like a “Vern” and the name stuck. He was an avid Twins and Vikings fan and enjoyed watching racing on TV.

Doug loved spending time with his son Jacob and enjoyed a cup of strong coffee while visiting with friends.

Doug is survived by his son Jacob R. Kuhn of Forest City, his mother, Betty (Buss) Kuhn Ankeny of Blue Earth, and five siblings: Alice (Rory) Telander of Laramie, Wyo.; Ken (Rosie) Kuhn of Stewartville; Cheri (Richard) Martin of Moorhead; Koni (Norm) Preston of Mapleton; John (Mary Jo) Kuhn of Blue Earth and very dear friends Topher and Stephanie Tackman of Forest City. Also surviving are many uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Doug was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, his father, Dale Kuhn, a nephew Brent Martin, a niece Tristan Kuhn and sister-in-law Connie Kuhn.

The family wishes memorials be directed to Hospice of North Iowa.

Petersen Lund Funeral Home in Forest City was in charge of arrangements.
