Gary Lewis Hanson, 62

Blue Earth — Gary Lewis Hanson, 62, died Sept. 22, 2008, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center in Blue Earth, after a lengthy illness. Gary was born in St. Paul on Dec. 1, 1945. He was raised in Frost and graduated from Frost High School in 1963. He entered the U.S. Marines in July 1963, served in Viet Nam, and was honorably discharged in 1967. He moved out east after the Marines. He married Carol Quick in 1995 and they lived in Thomaston, Conn., for the last 13 years where Gary was a master carpenter. He moved back to Minnesota in June 2008, to pursue medical care at the Mayo Clinic.

Gary was preceded in death by his father Raymond G. Hanson and by two children, a son, Todd, and a daughter, Amber Lynn, who died in infancy.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Hanson, their 12-year-old daughter, Samantha-Sue Coleen Hanson, who live in Thomaston, and step-sons, Frank, Steven and Scott. He is also survived by his mother, Wanda Kallestad, six sisters and two brothers.

As he had wished, Gary’s body was donated for scientific study to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester.

A memorial gathering was held at the Patton Funeral Home in Blue Earth on Oct. 4, 2008.

Memorial gifts are to be sent to the St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center Chaplaincy Department, in Blue Earth, in remembrance of the wonderful care he received there in his last weeks on earth.
