Irene H. Sonnek, 90
Easton — Irene H. Sonnek, age 90, of Easton, died Oct. 5, 2008, at the United Hospital in Blue Earth. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Oct. 9, 2008, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Easton. Father Eugene Stenzel officiated and burial was in OLMC Catholic Cemetery in Barber Township, Faribault County.
Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells was in charge of arrangements.
Irene H. Sonnek was born Oct. 2, 1918, the daughter of Stephen and Mary (Zaharris) Supalla in Mitchell, S.D. She graduated from Minnesota Lake High School. On Oct. 1, 1940, she was united in marriage to Francis Sonnek in Minnesota Lake. The couple owned and operated Sonnek Hardware in Easton. Irene and Francis enjoyed traveling in their earlier years. She was a member of OLMC Catholic Church, MCCW and the Catholic Daughters of America. Irene enjoyed her flower gardens, especially planting and caring for her roses. She furnished many corsages and special arrangements for weddings and anniversaries. Irene was loved by her grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her son Gerald F. (Dorothy) Sonnek of Blackduck; three grandchildren: Dr. Steve (Jill) Sonnek of Victoria, Major Scott (Liz) Sonnek of Anchorage, Alaska, and Sheila Sonnek of Stillwater; four great grandchildren; one sister Margaret Pestka of Rochester; many nieces and nephews and their families.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Francis in 1997, four brothers Leonard, Clarence, John and Robert, and one sister Louise Aschemann.
