Eugene E. “Gene” Hacklander, 73
Blue Earth — Eugene E. “Gene” Hacklander, age 73, of Blue Earth, died Dec. 10, 2008, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center, Blue Earth. Memorial services were held on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008, at 3:30 p.m., at Hope United Methodist Church (the former Salem United Methodist Church) in Blue Earth. Rev. Lora Sturm and Rev. Karl Rydholm officiated. Patton Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Blue Earth assisted the family with the arrangements.
Gene was born April 3, 1935, in Blue Earth, the son of Carrol and Ada (Osmundson) Hacklander. He was raised and educated in the farming community in Blue Earth where he was a 1953 graduate of Blue Earth High School. He graduated with a degree in Agriculture from the University of Minnesota and farmed near Blue Earth for many years. He had a love of the land and for animals. He enjoyed gardening following his retirement and was a frequent volunteer for the local food shelf.
Gene is survived by his wife Florence Hacklander of Blue Earth, his son David Hacklander and special friend Jackie Frederickson of Blue Earth, his daughter Becky Hacklander of Ringwood, N.J., his brother Duane (Effie) Hacklander of Prescott, Ariz. and his sister Nancy (Virgil) Swoyer of Tucson, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister-in-law Mary Hagedorn and a brother-in-law Kenneth Hagedorn.
