Edna M. Baker, 93
Blue Earth — Edna M. Baker, age 93, died Jan. 7, 2009, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center, Blue Earth. Funeral services were held Jan. 9, 2009, at Patton Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Blue Earth, with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Blue Earth.
Edna was born Feb. 10, 1915, in La Salle County, Ill., to Lydia (Roeder) Baker and Edwin B. Baker. At the age of four she moved to Minnesota with her parents. They lived on a farm just north of Marna.
She went to rural school for eight years, attended Blue Earth High School and graduated in 1933. In 1934 she received her Normal Training to teach. She taught for five years in rural schools in Blue Earth and Faribault Counties.
In 1941 she attended North Central College in Naperville, Ill., and received her BA degree in 1943. She taught 5th grade in Carlton for one year. She taught 5th grade and junior high students for ten years in Blue Earth.
Edna attended two quarters at St. Cloud University and received her BS degree in 1955. She spent the next 27 years in Hutchinson, first teaching Fifth Grade and then becoming the Elementary Librarian for Grades K-6.
In 1982, Edna retired and moved back to Blue Earth to live. She enjoyed traveling, visiting relatives and many community and church activities. She was a lifelong member of Immanuel United Methodist Church where she held many offices over the years. She was an active member of the Beta Kappa Gamma sorority as well as Mitchell Chautauqua and the Faribault County Historical Society.
Edna moved to St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center in 2005 after a fall.
Edna is survived by several cousins.
Edna was preceded in death by her mother, Lydia, in 1975 and her father, Edwin, in 1973.
