Laura Egesdal, 95

Blue Earth — Laura Egesdal, age 95, of Blue Earth, passed away on Jan. 1, 2009, at St. Lukes Lutheran Care Center in Blue Earth.

Funeral services were held Jan. 6, 2009, at Shiloh Lutheran Church in Elmore. Rev. Robert Roettger and Rev. Karl Rydholm officiated. Burial was in Riverview Cemetery in Elmore.

Winter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Laura Belle (Eichhorn) Egesdal was born Aug. 6, 1913, in Hebron Township, Kossuth County, Iowa (rural Elmore) to Cornelius L. and Lolo (Rowe) Eichhorn. She married Earl Egesdal on Dec. 5, 1933, at Shiloh Lutheran Parsonage in Elmore by Rev. Severin Gjerde. After marriage, they lived in Elmore.

She graduated from Elmore High School as salutatorian in 1931 where she was a member of the girl’s basketball team. She attended the Minneapolis Beauty School and then worked as a beautician in Elmore. She was a member of Shiloh Lutheran Church where she was organist, Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher, and was a switchboard operator in the Elmore and Blue Earth Valley Telephone Offices from 1952 until her retirement in 1978.

After retirement, she lived in Gaylord and Fairmont where she was active in Bible Study groups and volunteered at the Fairmont Hospital.

She and her sister Zella spent many winters in Mesa, Ariz. Her hobbies included traveling, writing family history stories, crocheting, and writing letters to family and friends. She was a member of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She is survived by her children: Sanford Egesdal of Minneapolis, Karen (Rev. Gordon) Trelstad of Red Wing, Elden Egesdal of Gaylord and Miriam Engebretson of Anchorage, Alaska; 15 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; her brother Elden (Betty) Eichhorn of Minneapolis; her sister Zella Egesdal of Blue Earth; her sisters-in-law Ruth Edwards of Bemidji and Marian Eichhorn of Blue Earth; and by many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband Earl in 1975; her brothers: Sanford, Howard, Earl, Roy, Ray, and Donald Eichhorn; her sisters: Minnie Jenkins and Eva Eichhorn; her son-in-law Rev. Bruce Engebretson and her daughter-in-law Laura Jean Egesdal.
