Marcell C. Sorensen, 92

Blue Earth — Marcell C. Sorensen, age 92, of Blue Earth, died Feb. 27, 2009, at Rice Memorial Hospital, Willmar. Memorial services were held March 2, 2009, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center in Blue Earth. Rev. Karl Rydholm officiated. Patton Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Blue Earth assisted the family with the arrangements.

Marcell was born Sept. 21, 1916, in Blue Earth, the son of Jens C. and Lottie M. (Gaddis) Sorensen. He was raised and educated in Blue Earth where he attended schools. He operated Sorensen Excavating and Trenching with his dad for several years until the early 1960’s. He was married to Mildred Thornton in the early 1930’s. Following her death during childbirth, he was married to Martha E. Schutt on Oct. 8, 1939. He operated a Phillips 66 gas station until the mid 1970’s when he began a wood crafts business, the House of Wooden Boots, with his third wife Ardella (Nelson) Sorensen. Marcell retired in the early 1980’s and was a former member of the International Order of the Odd Fellows and the Royal Chislers.

Marcell is survived by his children, Carol (Chuck) Hanson of Roseburg, Ore., Judy (Jeff) Nyberg of Cadiz, Ky., Patricia (John) Dinnella of Joliet, Ill., Kathy Thomas of Plymouth, Michael (Ngoc) Sorensen of Blue Earth, William (Anita) Sorensen of Dallas, Ore., his brother, Robert Sorensen of Calif., nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three wives, an infant daughter, sister Charlotte Reynolds and one great-great-grandson.
