Hazel C. Udstuen, 91
Omaha, Neb. — Hazel C. Udstuen, age 91, of Omaha, Neb., formerly of Elmore, died June 3, 2009, at the Josie Harper Hospice House in Omaha. Funeral services were held June 8, 2009, at Shiloh Lutheran Church in Elmore. Rev. Robert Roettger officiated. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Blue Earth. Patton Funeral Home and Cremation Service was in charge of arrangements.
Hazel was born Jan. 29, 1918, in Prescott Township, the daughter of Calvin and Ruth (Swinburne) Mattin. She was raised and educated in the Blue Earth and Mankato areas. She was married to Orrie E. Udstuen on Nov. 14, 1937 in Blue Earth. Hazel was a homemaker and had lived most of her life in Blue Earth, Elmore and Ledyard, Iowa, areas. She had been living in Omaha the past several years to be near her family. She enjoyed all her family and friends. She became the unofficial “welcome wagon” lady at the Golden Living Valhaven Care Center, helping people become comfortable about coming to a new home.
Hazel C. Udstuen is survived by her son, Charles O. Udstuen of Omaha; daughters, Bonnie (Fred) Brass of Dubuque, Iowa; Shirley (John) Carpenter of Omaha; Delores Carman of Council Bluffs, Iowa and special friend, Tom Coffey of Omaha. There are five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Also surviving are three sisters-in-law, Betty Schaper of Bricelyn, Dorothy (John) Silrum of Blue Earth and Winnie Hansen of Rochester, plus a host of other extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Orrie, in 1998, and her brother, Wayne Mattin.
Should family or friends so desire, memorials may be designated to Shiloh Lutheran Church, Elmore; St. Lukes Lutheran Care Center, Blue Earth; United Hands Hospice, Blue Earth, or to the Senior Companion Program, 4223 Center St., Omaha, NE 68105-2431.
