Shirley O. Lien, 91
Mankato — Shirley O. Lien, age 91, of Mankato, formerly of Delavan, died June 6, 2009, at Oaklawn Health Care Center, Mankato.
Memorial services were held June 9, 2009, at Faith Lutheran Church in Delavan. Rev. Todd Substad officiated. Burial was in West Lutheran Cemetery, Delavan. Spencer-Owen Funeral Home in Winnebago assisted the family with arrangements.
Shirley Lien, retired Sears employee, was born July 10, 1917, in Delavan, the daughter of Oliver and Sena (Selberg) Lien. She was baptized and confirmed at the Delavan Lutheran Church and graduated from Delavan High School in 1934. In 1942 she went to Seattle, Wash., where she worked at the White Center Drug Store and later at Todd Pacific Shipyard during WWII. In 1946 she came to Mankato and worked for Sears Roebuck for 36 years, retiring in 1982. She was a longtime member of Bethelehem Lutheran Church in Mankato, American Legion Auxiliary Unit II, Summit Senior Center, Prime Time Club and was a former member of the Mankato BPW. She enjoyed volunteer work, reading, walking, shopping and being with family and friends.
Shirley is survived by her nieces, Sharon Kiehm of Elysian, Susan Sonnek of Delavan, Donna Lien-Hicks of Delavan, Judy Parsons of Seattle, Wash., Kay McAvinew of Seattle, her nephews, Michael Lien of Willmar and Jeff Parsons of Seattle, 11 great-nieces, and nephews and several great-great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers: Warren, Dick and Lloyd Lien, sister, Dorothy Parsons, two sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law.
