Carrie Rosella Irene Urness Walder, 92

Wells — Carrie Rosella Irene Urness Walder, age 92, of Wells, died Aug. 12, 2009, at Parkview Care Center in Wells. A service was held Aug. 15, 2009, at Grace United Methodist Church in Kiester. Rev. Cherie Daniel officiated, and burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Blue Earth. Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells was in charge of arrangements.

Carrie Rosella Irene Urness Walder was born Jan. 13, 1917, the daughter of Ingebright H. and Ragnhild Kinserdahl Urness in Emerald Township, Faribault County. On Aug. 6, 1940, she was united in marriage to Hugh S. Walder in Frost.

Carrie graduated from Blue Earth High School in 1935. She taught rural school in the Kiester and Blue Earth area for six years. Carrie was a life long learner. Her goal was to learn as much about life as possible and touch as many people’s hearts as she could. Carrie was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Kiester. She taught numerous Bible and Sunday School classes. She was a member of United Methodist Women. Carrie and her husband welcomed many foster children in their home. Her work within the foster system made her a sought out speaker for foster care and hospice in this area. She worked at Faribault County Area Hospice as a Volunteer and Coordinator for many years. Carrie was Outstanding Senior Citizen for Faribault County in 1988. She served as a representative to Region Nine Area Agency on Aging for three years – 1988-1991. She was a life long resident of Faribault County.

Carrie is survived by her daughter, Kathleen (George Wiederaenders) Challgren of Fort Worth, Texas; son, Paul (Judy) Walder of Sartell; grandchildren: Anthony, Zachary, and Brandy Walder, Scott C. Challgren and Brigh Challgren (Michael) Effertz; great-grandchildren, Becca Walder, Parker Walder, Cooper and Chloe Walder, Sofia and AnnaBrynn Effertz. Carrie’s home was always open to 40 plus foster children. Her family has been blessed and enriched by love and care of Kathy, Ken, Melissa and Heather Hanson, Wanda and Lyle Solberg, Lori and Jerome Miller, Kathy Porter, Jessie, Moni, Sara Reese and Kathy Olson. She is also survived by her sister-in-laws, Mrs. Dorothy Urness and Mrs. Clarice Urness and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Hugh; her parents, Ingebright and Ragnhild; sisters Inga and Kari; and brothers Ingvald and Henry.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the donors choice.
