Elvira Thompson, 90
Chaska — Elvira Thompson, age 90, of Chaska, formerly of Elmore, passed away on Sept. 7, 2009, at Auburn Manor in Chaska.
Services were held Sept. 12, 2009, at 11 a.m., at Shiloh Lutheran Church in Elmore. Rev. Robert Roettger officiated. A private burial was held at Riverview Cemetery in Elmore.
Elvira Muriel Naumann was born Oct. 17, 1918 in Mansfield Township to Sarah and Albert Naumann. She was the second youngest of eleven children. She began her education in a country school and later, when the family moved to Elmore, she attended Elmore Public School where she completed 8th grade.
On Nov. 16, 1943 she married Harlan Ray Thompson, son of Oscar and Annie Thompson. They were later blessed with three daughters: (twins) Sharlene and Sharen, and Twylah. Her daughter Sharen passed away shortly after birth.
For twenty-one years they worked on the family farm until 1964 when they moved to Elmore. After Harlan’s death in 1967, she remained in their home until 2005 when she moved to Chaska. Living in Chaska allowed her to enjoy more time with her family, celebrate birthdays and holidays, and attend many other family and social events.
She was baptized at the Lutheran Church in Kiester and confirmed at Shiloh Lutheran Church, where she was an active member for more than 80 years. She enjoyed the companionship of the small groups, singing in the choir, participating in the Ladies Aid, circles and Bible studies.
In her home she enjoyed sewing, embroidery work, knitting afghans for family, playing cards (especially Solitaire), working jig-saw puzzles and fellowship with her many friends.
She is survived by her two beloved daughters: Sharlene (Bill) Christian of Shakopee and Twylah (Jim) Kohout of Prior Lake. She was grateful for her six grandchildren: Brent Field, Sara (Matt) Theis, Dan (Nicole) Kohout, Paul (Sherry) Kohout, Mary Elizabeth Kohout and Jeff Kohout. She was also very proud of her eight great-grandchildren: Sydney and Trystan Theis, Anna, Abby, Mark, Autumn, Brianna and Chandler Kohout. Other surviving family members include her sister, Eva Thorson; and sisters-in-law, Madeline Naumann, Iva Erickson, Donna (Maynard) Gjerde and Murtis Johnson.
