Violet Haugen, 87

Rake, Iowa — Violet Haugen, age 87, of Rake, Iowa, died Sept. 12, 2009, at Truman Senior Living. Funeral services were held on Sept. 16, 2009 at Zion Lutheran Church in Rake. Rev. Carlton Shaw officiated. Burial was in East Cemetery, Rake. Patton Funeral Home and Cremation Service was in charge of arrangements.

She was born Jan. 10, 1922, on the family farm in Rake, the daughter of Gerhard and Mathilda (Bolstad) Tananger. She was raised and educated in Rake, graduating from Rake High School in 1939. She briefly attended Waldorf College in Forest City, Iowa before her marriage to Orion “Bud” Jagerson on Dec. 2, 1939. The couple farmed the family farm until Bud’s unexpected death in 1944. Violet was later married to Amil Haugen on Aug. 22, 1947. Violet was a homemaker on the farm and helped raise nine children. She was a lifetime member of Zion Lutheran Church in Rake where she was a past president of the ladies aide. Violet and Amil enjoyed wintering in various locations in the southern United States and even occasionally in Mexico. She most enjoyed the many gatherings of her blended family and spending time with her grandchildren.

Violet is survived by her children, Douglas Jagerson of Prescott, Ariz., Scott (Marlys) Jagerson of Elmore, Gary Haugen of Rake, Dawn (Richard) Hanson of Blue Earth, step children, Joan Hamre of Wallingford, Iowa, Carol Zierke of Blue Earth, Arlowe (Ruth) Haugen of Lakeville, 24 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Bud Jagerson in 1944, husband, Amil Haugen in 1998, a daughter, Gloria Risius, a son, Steven Haugen, sons-in-law: Harold Risius, Merle Zierke, Bud Hamre and four grandchildren, Kristie Ricke, Judy Ross, Wade Haugen and Jeff Zierke.
