Fairmont — Services for Gladys E. Taplin, age 96, of Fairmont were Oct. 1, 2009, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Burial was in Center Chain Cemetery.
Gladys passed away on Sept. 25, 2009, at the Fairmont Medical Center.
Gladys Elaine (Weseman) Taplin was born on Sept. 1, 1913, in Trimont, the daughter of Fred and Lydia (Kulin) Weseman. She attended District 50 Country School in Manyaska Township. She was united in marriage to John Taplin on June 16, 1936, in Estherville, Iowa. They lived in Fairmont and Welcome. John passed away in August of 1968. Gladys worked at Jeff’s Bakery for a couple of years and Mellon Egg Company for a short time. Next, Gladys worked at Armour Foods for 13 years and then Lakeview Methodist Healthcare Center as a baker for 10 years. She retired in 1983. Gladys was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Fairmont Community Hospital Auxiliary, Young at Heart and helped deliver Meals on Wheels. She will be remembered for her kindness, warm smile, generous spirit and amazing baking.
She is survived by two sons, Robert (Joyce) Taplin of Blue Earth, Jack (Bonnie) Taplin of Granada; one daughter, Betty (Terry) Grunig of Truman; daughter-in-law, Jeanie Taplin of Fairmont; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; three sisters-in-law, Felica Weseman of Jackson, Virginia Weseman of Litchfield and Harriet Aakre of Fairmont; one brother-in-law, Gene Taplin of Cohasset; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Gladys was also preceded in death by one son, Thomas Taplin; two brothers, Leon and Frederick Weseman; and six sisters, Blanche Bran, Evelyn Rosenberg, Donna Eisenmenger, Fern Eisenmenger, Doris Schwager and Mildred Borchardt.
