Blue Earth — Gladys L. Anderson, age 89, of Blue Earth, died Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center, Blue Earth. Funeral Services were held Sept. 30, 2009, at Patton Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Blue Earth. Rev. Jan Crissinger officiated. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Blue Earth.
Gladys L. (Johnston) Anderson was born July 20, 1920, on a farm Southwest of Blue Earth in Pilot Grove Township the daughter of Frank and Lula (Ashford) Johnston. She attended country school in District #1 and graduated from Blue Earth High School in 1938. She attended Mankato Business College and worked at ASC Farm Bureau Office in Blue Earth. Later she worked in St. Paul at the Minnesota Department of Health for four years. She was married to Melvin J. Anderson on May 4, 1946, after he was discharged from the army. They farmed in the Brush Creek, Pilot Grove and Blue Earth areas until 1964 when they moved to Blue Earth. Gladys was secretary/treasurer at First Presbyterian Church for 20 years where she was a lifetime member. She was past matron of Eastern Star and past president of Welberlyn Club and Church Women United. She also was a member of many other clubs.
Gladys is survived by her daughter, Patricia (David) Teskey of Savage, granddaughters Tricia Yorek of Lakeville and Traci (Robert) Iten of Eagan, great-grandchildren Tristan and Tia Yorek, Isabelle and James Iten, and many nephews, nieces and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband Melvin Anderson, her parents, sister Ruby Rector and brother Vernon Johnston.
Memorial donations are directed to the Children’s Home Society of Minnesota or the First Presbyterian Church in Blue Earth.
