Colleen Faye Grupe, 80

Delavan — Colleen Faye Grupe, age 80, of Delavan, passed away on Oct. 1, 2009, at Parker Oaks in Winnebago. Funeral services were held Oct. 3, 2009, at the United Methodist Church in Delavan. Rev. Victoria Ashley officiated. Burial was in Rice Lake Cemetery, rural Delavan. Spencer-Owen Funeral Home in Winnebago was in charge of arrangements.

Colleen (McDermott) Grupe was born May 8, 1929, at her family’s farm near Armstrong, Iowa. She was the daughter of William and Gladys (Altizer) McDermott, and was raised on a farm near Delavan. Colleen graduated from Delavan Public School in 1947. She married Gordon Grupe in Delavan on Aug. 15, 1948. Colleen enjoyed music and sporting events, and spent many nights and weekends at concerts and athletic events for her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with her family and traveling around the country with Gordon.

Colleen is survived by her husband of 61 years, Gordon Grupe of Delavan; children, Randy (Renee) Grupe of Trimont, Paul (Brenda) Grupe of Jackson, and Kayla (Dayton) Westra of Fulda. Colleen had 11 grandchildren: Jayden (fiancé Miranda), Cailey, and Connor Grupe; Brianna, Kendra, Marissa, Shawna, Brandon, and Kenny Grupe; Maddy and Claire Westra. She is also survived by her twin sister, Colette Jenkins, and her older sister, Delores Walker Nilson.

Colleen was preceded in death by her parents, brother Keith, infant brother, George, brothers-in-law Arnold Jenkins and Roland Walker, and sisters-in-law Ruth (Grupe) Trouth and Jeanette (Grupe) Stauffer.
