Susan N. Lincoln, 61

Toledo, Ohio — Susan Nell Lincoln, age 61 of Toledo, died at Mercy St. Vincent’s Hospital at Toledo on Sept. 14, 2009 after a courageous, eight year struggle with cancer.

A memorial service will be held at United Lutheran Church in Frost on Saturday, Oct. 24, at 2 p.m. for relatives and friends. Susan will be buried in United Lutheran Cemetery near her childhood home at Frost. Memorials are preferred to Hospice or Frost Library.

Susan was born in Fargo, N.D., on May 4, 1948, to Edwin Herbert and Agnes (Erdahl) Lincoln and was baptized at Gardner, N.D. As a child Susan moved with her family to Frost in 1957, was confirmed at United Lutheran Church and graduated from Frost High School in 1966. Susan graduated with honors from North Dakota State University at Fargo in 1971, majoring in foods and nutrition and earning a Bachelor of Science degree. She did her master’s program at Easter Michigan University at Ypsilanti, Mich.

Susan was employed as a clinical dietitian for over 30 years at St. Vincent Medical Center and was a consulting dietitian for Hospice of Northwest Ohio and Toledo area senior centers. Sue served as an adjunct college instructor in dietetics, mentoring countless dietetic students throughout the years. She was always willing to share her nutrition knowledge with area organizations and church groups.

Susan was an active member of the American, Ohio and Toledo Dietetic Associations, serving on many committees throughout her professional career. Her many volunteer contributions included leadership in the Greater Toledo Nutrition Council and particularly Junior League of Toledo, which honored her with an award for her outstanding volunteerism in 2003.

Susan enjoyed playing the piano, reading, gourmet cooking, watercolor painting, traveling, bird watching, and visiting family and friends. Her baking of delicious rhubarb pies was an often requested family favorite.

Susan is survived by her mother, Agnes Lincoln of Frost; her brothers George (Charlene) Lincoln of Frost and Jim (Jeanne) Lincoln of Cave Creek, Ariz.; one nephew, Lee Lincoln of Frost, two nieces, Anne and Georgia Lincoln of Cave Creek, Ariz., an aunt, Lorraine (Bob) Reeves of Waterloo, Iowa; many cousins, especially Jeanne (Fred) Matthews of Bowling Green, Ohio, and Gerry Ann Howard of Davisburg, Mich., who were like sisters to her, and numerous friends.

Preceding Susan in death were her father, Edwin Herbert Lincoln, in 1999, one brother, Andrew H. Lincoln, in infancy and five aunts.
