Wilfred T. Humburg, 80
Harlingen,Texas — Wilfred Theodore Humburg, age 80, formerly of Blue Earth, passed away Oct. 16, 2009, at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 7, at 11 a.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Blue Earth.
Wilfred was born Dec. 11, 1928, the son of Theodore and Rosa Humburg. He was baptized on Jan. 6, 1929, and confirmed on May 23, 1943, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Blue Earth. He graduated from Blue Earth High School in 1946 and attended Bethany Lutheran College from 1948 to 1950. He married Lois Elaine Olson on Oct. 19, 1952, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blue Earth.
Wilfred farmed until 1968. In 1970 he graduated from Mankato State University with a Bachelor of Science degree and moved to La Crescent, where he taught life science and biology at La Crescent High School for the next 21 years. After retirement, he moved to Harlingen.
Wilfred was active in church. He enjoyed spending time with family, friends and students. He liked working on projects, reading about science and natural history, wood carving and driving down open roads looking at fields. He saw potential in every situation.
He is survived by his wife Lois of Harlingen, two sons, Steven (Ruth) Humburg of Gaithersburg, Md. and Jon Humburg of Ashland, Wis., daughter, Heidi (Glenn) White of Alexandria, ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, brother, Sherman (Shirley) Humburg, sisters, Norma Dornack and Iona (Ken) Mastin.
He was preceded in death by his infant son Jay, both parents, and brother, Arlin.
