Gladys Schwab, 99

Winnebago — Gladys Schwab, age 99, a resident of Parker Oaks Care Center in Winnebago, formerly of Blue Earth, died Feb. 14, 2010, at Fairmont Medical Center.

Memorial services were held on Feb. 19, 2010, at St.Paul Lutheran Church in Blue Earth, with the Rev. Wesley Hafner officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Blue Earth.

Patton Funeral Home and Cremation Service, in Blue Earth assisted the family with the arrangements.

Gladys was born June 2, 1910, in Minneapolis, the daughter of Warren and Luella (Wilson) Wildes. She was raised and educated in Blue Earth where she attended school.

She was married to Fred P. Schwab on Dec. 21, 1929, in Winnebago. Gladys was a homemaker and had worked at the Vienna Bakery and seasonally with Green Giant Co. She was a member of Garden Club, the American Legion Auxiliary and was a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, all in Blue Earth. She loved being outdoors and tending her many flower gardens. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Gladys is survived by her daughter, Betty (Don Sefanske) Engleby, of Mankato; her son, Roger (Dee) Schwab, of Granada; her daughter, Marian Grotzinger, of Fairmont; her son, Harlan Schwab, of Grand Marais; her sister, Stella (Clarence) Ballard, of Minneapolis; sister-in-law, Golda Schwab; 25 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1998, brother, Jon Wildes; daughters, Lois Yeager, Sherly Schwab and Phyllis Kregnes, and infant son, Alan John Schwab; granddaughters, Sandra Grotzinger, baby Goraczkowski and Kim Yeager; and sons-in-law, Robert Engleby, Ed Grotzinger and Fred Yeager.
