Gerald E. Blom, 81
Guckeen — Gerald E. Blom, age 81, of Guckeen, died April 7, 2010, at United Hospital, Blue Earth. Funeral Services were held April 10, 2010, at Trinity Lutheran Church, in Blue Earth. The Rev. Mark Wilms officiated. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Blue Earth.
Gerald was born Feb. 18, 1929, at Pleasant Prairie Township, the son of Joseph and Susan (Reinhardt) Blom. He was raised and educated in Pleasant Prairie Township and East Chain Schools. He was married to Donamae D. Hauskins on July 16, 1948, at the EUB Church, in Blue Earth. The couple lived between Swea City and Armstrong, Iowa before Gerald began farming his family farm near Guckeen in 1951. He continued farming that same farm for 53 years, retiring in 2004. Gerald loved farming, raising cattle, hunting deer and pheasants and loved to fish up north. He was a longtime Pilot Grove 4-H leader and was a member of Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, ASC offices and was a faithful blood donor — recently receiving his 18 gallon award. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Pilot Grove and served on the Pilot Grove Township Board.
Gerald is survived by his wife, Donamae Blom, of Blue Earth; daughters, Pam (Bruce) Milbrandt, of Storm Lake, Iowa, Julie D’Amico, of Orlando, Fla., Janie (Don) Anderson, of Blue Earth; son-in-law, Steve Komarek, of Cumberland, Wis.; sister, Vivian Danks, of Blue Earth; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren at present.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Patricia Komarek; and brothers, Lester and Russell Blom.
