Robert (Bob) G. Emerson, 58

St. Cloud — Robert (Bob) Emerson died at the St. Cloud Hospital on Dec. 21, 2009. A memorial service was held at the First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea at that time.

A graveside burial service will be held at the Riverview Cemetery, in Elmore, on May 1, 2010, at 11 a.m. Lunch and visitation will be at the Methodist Church in Elmore, following the short service.

Bob was born in Blue Earth, Feb. 9, 1951, to Gene and Anna Emerson. He was baptized at the Methodist Church in Elmore, and was confirmed at the First Lutheran Church, in Albert Lea. He attended school in Elmore through the second grade. He then moved to Albert Lea with his mother and two brothers. He graduated from Albert Lea High School, and received his B.S. in social work at the State University in St. Cloud. Robert spent the majority of his career working in corrections with Sherburne and Anoka Counties of Minnesota. Later he worked in chemical rehabilitation and was a counselor at Cambridge Hospital. Robert’s poor health has kept him disabled since that time. He was a three-time cancer survivor. In the past years he has been volunteering, whenever able, at Recovery Plus in St. Cloud.

In 1981, Bob married Jean Egenberger at First Lutheran Church, in Albert Lea. They later divorced.

He is survived by his children, Brad Emerson, of Duluth, and Anna Emerson, of San Diego, Calif.; parents, Emil (Swede) and Anna Oberg, of Albert Lea; brothers and sisters, Bruce (Lynette) Emerson, of Albert Lea, Steve (Stephanie) Oberg, of Littleton, Colo., Sue (Rich) Michaelis, of Henderson, Sally (Jack) Moore, of Anaheim, Calif., and Jean (Ed) Schlede, of Albert Lea; six nephews and five nieces and their families and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gene, in 1956; brother, Bradley Emerson in 1968; and one nephew, Jeffrey Moore; grandparents, Ed and Millie Emerson and Lewis and Julia Olson.
