Ruth E. Burfeind, 92
Blue Earth — Ruth Elsie (Dorn) Burfeind, age 92, of Blue Earth, and formerly of Lewiston, died on May 30, 2010, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center, in Blue Earth.
A Funeral Service was held June 4, 2010, at St. John’s Evangelical Luth-eran Church, in Lewiston. The Rev. Michael A. Lindemann, and the Rev. John Dermé officiated. Burial was in St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, Lewiston.
She was born on Oct. 26, 1917, in Lewiston, to Frank and Emma (Rahn) Dorn. She was united in marriage to Arnold C. Burfeind on Oct. 16, 1943, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, in Lewiston. He preceded her in death in 2000. For most of her life, Ruth lived in Lewiston, until December 2004, when she moved to St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center, in Blue Earth.
Ruth attended St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran School through the eighth grade and was a 1935 graduate of Lewiston High School. She also attended Winona Business College. She had been employed by the Winona County 4-H office, the Lutheran Children’s Home Society in St. Paul, and the Winona County AAA Office as a secretary. She also worked as a bookkeeper for the Lewiston Midland Cooperative and was a homemaker for many years.
She was a lifelong member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, in Lewiston, where she taught Sunday School for 25 years and was also a Charter Member of its Dorcas Society. Ruth was also a member of the Lewiston Park Board, the Lewiston Flower Society, the Homemaker Extension Group, and St. Luke’s Sunshine Bell Choir.
She enjoyed knitting, playing cards, Cribbage, flower gardening and visiting with friends. Most of all she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Sandra (David) Murray, of Blue Earth; granddaughters, Sarah Murray, of Blue Earth, and Rachel Murray, of Rochester; grandson, Daniel Murray, of Ames, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Lorris Dorn, of Winona, and Edna Burfeind, of Winona; several nieces and nephews; as well as other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arnold; brother, Frederick Dorn; sisters, Dorothy (Elden) Bode, and Minnie “Babe” (Carl) Miller; and niece, Kathryn Bode.
