Richard “Dick” Howard, 72
Lakota, Iowa — Richard “Dick” Howard, age 72, of Lakota, Iowa, died at Fairmont Medical Center, on July 9, 2010.
His memorial ceremony was held July 13, 2010, at Winter Funeral Home, in Blue Earth. The Rev. Ron Wheeler officiated. Inurnment followed at Riverside Cemetery, in Blue Earth.
Richard Dale Howard was born Nov. 11, 1937, in Blue Earth, to Cecil and Dena (Bonk) Howard. He attended Blue Earth Schools and was in the class of 1955. While in high school, Dick was a Golden Glove boxer. After high school, Dick was employed by Frank Bros. Elevator. He married Marlys Wolter, and they were later divorced. Dick was an over the road truck driver for Ace Trucking, of Shakopee, the Schwen Ice Cream Co., of Blue Earth, and later for Tafco until his retirement. His career allowed him to see much of the U.S. as he traveled over two million miles.
Dick is survived by his special partner, Cherie Richardson, of Lakota; daughters, Sheri Howard (Van Schlegel), of LaCrosse, Wis., and Shelley (Denny) Junkermeier, of Fairmont; sons, Steve (Renee) Howard, of Mankato, and Stacy (Bekki) Howard, of Blue Earth; grandchildren, Christopher and Kylie Schlegel, of LaCrosse, Nick Howard, of Maple Grove, Jon Howard, of Mankato, Reily, Brady, Kelsy and Jordyn Junkermeier, of Fairmont, and Reegan, Will, Arika and Britt Howard, of Blue Earth; sisters, Jackie Grimes, of Portland, Ore., Genevieve Wagner, of Blue Earth, Kathryn Nowak, of Elmore, and Deanna Voth, of Windom; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Arthur Howard and Thomas Howard; and sisters, Edna Sommerset, Eva VanSlyke, Annabelle Nelson and Donna Works.
