Elmore — Darla J. Welsh, age 55, of Elmore, formerly of Elkport, Iowa, died Oct. 8, 2010, at her home in Elmore.
Funeral Services were held Oct. 14, 2010, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Edgewood, Iowa. The Rev. Ruth Tibbott officiated. Burial was in Goshen Cemetery, Millville, Iowa.
Darla was born Jan. 8, 1955, in Guttenberg, Iowa, the daughter of Eugene and Vivian (Phelps) Knospe. She was raised and educated in Elkport and graduated from Elkader High School in 1973. She was married to Kenneth James Welsh on July 10, 1976, in New Hampton, Iowa. The couple moved to Huntley in 1984 and lived in Blue Earth and came to Elmore 13 years ago, where they currently reside. Darla took vocational training and became a home health and nurses aid and has worked as a home health aid for 22 years. She worked with Prairie Land Health Care and also with the Assissi Group Homes. Darla was proud to be a member of the Freeborn County Victims of Crime unit. She was also a member of a local Poetry Society, donated to the Locks of Love organization, and was a member of LEAP – an advocacy group for handicapped and disabled citizens.
Darla J. Welsh is survived by her husband, Kenneth Welsh, of Elmore; children, Kenny (Melissa) Welsh, of Blue Earth, Kevin Welsh (special friend Allison Donnely), of Fairmont, daughter, Jennifer White, of Manchester, Iowa; father, Eugene (Ruth) Knospe, of Elkport; brothers, Jack Knospe, of Farmersburg, Iowa, and Louis Knospe, of Colesburg, Iowa; and six grandchildren, Liam, Jasmine, Dominic, Kyra, Katie and Ayden.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Vivian; and brother-in-law, Gary Welsh.
