S. Jean Schwen, 85
Blue Earth – S. Jean Schwen, age 85, of Blue Earth, died Oct. 11, 2010, at Loving Care Cottage Assisted Living, in Cottage Grove.
Memorial Services were held Oct. 16, 2010, at 2 p.m., at Hope United Methodist Church, in Blue Earth. The Rev. Lois Able officiated. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Blue Earth. Patton Funeral Home and Cremation Service was in charge of arrangements.
Jean was born Dec. 17, 1924, at Starbuck, the daughter of William and Ida (Swenson) Anderson. She attended country schools in Starbuck. She then attended the University of Minnesota where she earned a Graduate in Nursing and a Bachelors of Science with high distinction in 1947. She was married to Walter J. Schwen on Nov. 28, 1947, in St. Paul. Jean was the Faribault County Public Health Nurse in the 1970’s. She volunteered at the local food shelf and meals on wheels for many years. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, where she volunteered for many activities. She was also a member of the American Legion, Home Economics Club and was a member of the Legion Auxiliary for 59 years. She enjoyed raising African Violets, reading, crocheting, and was involved with current events and politics.
Jean Schwen is survived by her children, Andrea (Richard) Sanders, of Gallatin, Tenn., Katherine (Randal) Tweden, of Mahtomedi, William (Catherine) Schwen, of Cottage Grove, Richard (Zeinab) Schwen, of Cincinnati, OH, David (Lynda) Schwen, of Bemidji, Edward (Roben) Schwen, of Rochester, and Jeffrey (Gayle) Schwen, of Lakeville; brothers, John (Mary Ann) Anderson, of Edina, and Donald (Dorothy) Anderson, of Starbuck; 16 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter, in 2006; a grandson, Nicholas Schwen; and a sister, Carol Anderson.
In lieu of flowers, donations requested to the local food shelf.
