Arnold J. Sonnek

Easton – Arnold John Sonnek, age 63, of Easton, died unexpectedly at his home in his butcher shop on Nov. 20, 2010.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Nov. 23, 2010, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, in Minnesota Lake. The Rev. Mark McNea officiated and burial was in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery, Barber Township, Faribault County. Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home, in Wells, assisted the family with the arrangements.

Arnie was born May 26, 1947, in Mankato, the son of Herbert and Anna (Wach) Sonnek. He graduated from Minnesota Lake High School in 1965. On Jan. 22, 1972, he married Connie Becker at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, in Easton. Arnie farmed until 1994. He owned and operated a butcher shop for 21 years with his business partner Scott Radke. He was a rural mail carrier in the Easton area for 26 years.

Arnie was a hard worker who loved his family. He enjoyed livestock, his four-wheeler, and pontoon rides on the lake. He was a social bug who loved to entertain people. He enjoyed cooking, cutting meat, and being in his butcher shop.

Arnie is survived by his wife, Connie, of Easton; children, Joel (Carly) Sonnek, of Easton, Jill (Mike) Swehla, of Winnebago, Todd Sonnek, of Mankato, and Troy Sonnek, of Minnesota Lake; six grandchildren, Steven, Caleb, Gavin, Seth, Bryce and Macy. He is also survived by his brother, Frank (Kathy) Sonnek, of Easton; sister, Kathryn Smith, of Marysville, Calif.; brother-in-law, Brad Schoneck, of Mankato; and many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Anna; sister, Agnes Schoneck; brothers-in-law, Skeeter Smith and Steve Caldwell; nephews, Art Sonnek, Steve Schoneck and Jason Becker; and parents-in-law, Raymond and Joan Becker.
