Caretha B. Reynolds

Delavan – Caretha Beth Reynolds, age 94, of Delavan, died Dec. 20, 2010, at United Hospital District, in Blue Earth.

Funeral Services were held at Bass Lake Community Church, Winnebago, on Dec. 22, 2010. Burial was in Bass Lake Cemetery.

Caretha was born July 23, 1916, in Blue Earth, the daughter of Carl and Esther (Willmert) Hagger. She was raised in Blue Earth, graduating from Blue Earth High School in 1934. She received a degree in elementary education at Mankato State College in 1938.

Caretha taught elementary school at Morgan for one year before getting married.

She married Raymond Reynolds on June 12, 1941, in Blue Earth, and they briefly operated the Bass Lake Store, living in the back rooms.

When World War II broke out, she lived with her father for a while and when she could join Raymond, she worked as a teacher in Key West an New York. When the war ended, she and Ray lived in the small house across from the store for about seven years, then moved to their farm a couple miles east of the lake. While there, Caretha always had a large garden and helped with the farm duties.

Living near Bass Lake, Caretha was involved with the Bass Lake Community Church, Bass Lake Ladies Aid, and the Bass Lake Birthday Club. She and Ray were also members of a 500 Card Club which met regularly in the members’ homes.

Caretha enjoyed watching the Vikings, crossword puzzles and reading. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend who will be sorely missed.

She is survived by her children, Gary (Janice) Reynolds, of Inverness, Fla., Linda (Reynolds) Olson, of Laurel, Md., and Howard Reynolds, of Winnebago; four grandchildren, Eric Lee Olson, Kris Arin, Olson, Kari Lynn (Olson) Hirst, and Jason David Reynolds; three great-grandchildren, Ian Carter Hirst, Keegan David Reynolds and Colby David Reynolds.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Reynolds; brother, Donelly Willmert Hagger; and son-in-law, Leon Curtis Olson.
