Margaret A. Lubitz, 79
Mankato – Margaret Ann Lubitz, age 79, was called home on March 18, 2011, after a battle with cancer.
Mass of Christian Burial was held March 22, 2011, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, in Easton. The Rev. Mark McNea officiated and burial was in Calvary Cemetery, rural Delavan, Faribault County.
Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells was in charge of arrangements.
Margaret was born Dec. 29, 1931, in Easton, the daughter of Alfred and Helen (Hefner) Rauenhorst. She graduated from Wells High School, the class of 1949. On Sept. 11, 1951, she married Thomas Lubitz at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, in Easton. Margaret worked in food service at the Delavan School for 23 years. She was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, having been baptized and confirmed at the church. She was also active with the MCCW, Catholic Daughters, the American Legion Auxiliary, and several card clubs. She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, flowers, playing cards and traveling. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Margaret is survived by her husband of 59 years, Tom Lubitz, of Mankato, formerly of Delavan; two daughters, Sue (Darwin) Sprong, of Ames, Iowa, and Jan (Terry) Sonnek, of Mapleton; four grandchildren, Christopher Sprong, of Madrid, Iowa, Jaclyn (Brian) Anderzhon, of Story City, Iowa, Matthew (Becky) Sonnek, of Hugo, and David Sonnek, of Mapleton; three great-grandchildren, Jonathan Sonnek, Mariah Albertson and Blake Sonnek; two brothers, Milton (Kathryn) Rauenhorst, of Lakeville, and Donald (Marilyn) Rauenhorst, of Wells; two sisters, Mary Jane Vogel, of Broomfield, Colo., and Betty (Larry) Thisius, of Wells; brother-in-law, Donald (Shirley) Lubitz, of Columbia, S.C.; two sisters-in-law, CSJ Monica Lubitz, of St. Paul, and Elaine Lubitz, of Albert Lea; along with many nieces and nephews and their families.
She is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Pamela Kay Lubitz; sister, Melaine (James) Theede; brother-in-law, Harvey Vogel; sister-in-law, Darlene Rauenhorst; nephews, John Rauenhorst; and niece, Karen Thisius.
