Alta M. Hamre, 83
Hutchinson — Alta Marie Hamre, age 83, of Hutchinson, passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at the Birchwood Hospice House in Hutchinson.
Memorial Services are being held today, Monday, June 20, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, in Hutchinson, with interment at a later date at the Riverside Cemetery, in Blue Earth. The Rev. Paulus Pilgrim is officiating.
Alta Mare Hamre was born on May 29, 1928, in Elmore, Faribault County. She was the daughter of George and Ivah Mae (Darrone) Cahoon. Alta was baptized as an infant, and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth at the Methodist Church, in Elmore. She was a graduate of Elmore High School Class of 1946.
On May 27, 1951, Alta was united in marriage to Eloi Hamre at the Methodist Church, in Elmore. This marriage was blessed with two children, Susan (Mrs. Dave Neubarth) and Peter. Alta and Eloi resided in San Diego, Calif., and Blue Earth, until they moved to Hutchinson in 1962. They celebrated 60 years of marriage.
In addition to being a loving homemaker and mother, Alta was employed at the Hutchinson Community Hospital in the kitchen. She enjoyed cooking and was very creative. Her caramel rolls for the hospital were the best. Alta retired in 1993. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Hutchinson. Alta was also a member of Hutchinson VFW Auxiliary Post #906. She was active in several organizations including Mrs. Jaycees, where she was the Charter President, League of Women Voters, Hospital Auxiliary, Girl Scouts, Cub Scout Den Mother.
Alta enjoyed her bridge clubs, golfing, bowling and in later years, her flowers, knitting and crocheting. Alta and Eloi also traveled extensively throughout the years. Alta cherished the time she spent with her family and friends.
Alta peacefully passed away on Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at the Birchwood Hospice House, in Hutchinson, at the age of 83.

Alta is survived by her husband, Eloi Hamre, of Hutchinson; daughter, Susan (Dave) Neubarth, of Hutchinson; son, Peter Hamre, of Dassel; step-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Alta is preceded in death by her parents, George and Ivah Mae Cahoon; sisters, Iris Cahoon and Marian Kray and her husband, Heye; and brother, Raymond Cahoon.
