Verna Sabin

Blue Earth — Verna “Billie” Sabin, age 86, of Blue Earth, passed away at St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center, in Blue Earth on Tuesday, June 21, 2011.

Funeral Services for Verna were held June 27, 2011, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center, in Blue Earth. The Rev. Karl Rydholm and Rev. Barbara Jewell officiated. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, in Blue Earth.

Verna “Billie” Olava Sabin was born on June 1, 1925, to Oliver C. and Mabel (Graue) Savick, in Frost. She had six brothers and two sisters.

Billie graduated from Frost. She married Earl Thomas Sabin on Jan. 10, 1946. To this union, there were four children: Dan, Nancy, Paula and John.

She worked at many downtown Blue Earth stores: Ben Franklin, Breen’s, Nicollet Place as housekeeper and cook, and was a friend to all the residents that lived there.

Billie enjoyed baking. She made the best cinnamon rolls in town. She also enjoyed crocheting and embroidering potato sack dish towels.

Billie enjoyed spending time with family. Her greatest pride was to be a mother and grandmother. She was like a mother to many of her children’s friends.

Billie entered St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center in May 2011.

Billie is survived by her children: Dan (Ardys) Sabin, of Sebeka, Nancy (Jerry) Steinberger, of Armstrong, Iowa, Paula (David) Rosenau, of Blue Earth, and John (Janell) Sabin, of Lakeville; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sister, Wanda Kallasted, of Blue Earth; and brothers, Richard (Ardis) Savick, of St. Clair, and Earl (Nancy) Davidson, of Litchfield.

Billie was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; parents, Oliver and Mabel Savick; sister, Della Bakke; brothers, Oliver, Milton, Otto and Robert; granddaughter, Lisa; and three great-grandchildren.
