George (Bud) R. Martin, 90
Fort Myers Bch., Fla. — George (Bud) Martin was born on Oct. 2, 1920, and was schooled in Blue Earth. Bud passed away July 1, 2011, in sunny Ft. Myers Beach, Fla., of natural causes with his wife Violet by his side.
A Memorial Service will be held July 31, 2011, in Ft. Myers Beach.
Bud was married in 1945 to Violet Marie Sanders from Los Angeles after serving in the Army in World War II. In 1941 he took over his mothers cafe in Blue Earth, the White House Cafe located on Hwy. 169 (now Winter Funeral Home) and later building it to a fine dining supper club, and lounge after adding on the dining room in 1964. Bud and Vi ran the business for 48 years through 1989 catering to many from all over the country. Bud also did catering in Florida until 2008. In 1947, Bud built the home located at 916 E. 4th St., in Blue Earth, now owned by his grandson Chris Gack and wife Amy. Bud later built the car wash on Hwy. 169 (now Headlines Plus) in 1967. Bud was a member of the VFW, American Legion and Masonic Lodge and a WWII vet. During this time Bud also found time and enjoyed taking his grandchildren and friends and relatives to their summer residence in Longville, in Indian Creek Park (now Long Birch Lodge) while in semi-retirement before eventually retiring to Florida. Bud was an avid fresh and saltwater fisherman and outdoorsman.
Bud is preceded in death by his sister, Patty Hynes, of Rochester; and mother, Aurealia Wrightson, of Blue Earth.
He is survived by his wife, Violet; sons, Raymond Martin, of Phoenix Ariz., and Kirt Martin, of Idaho; daughters, Shari Templin, of Apple Valley, and Debra Gack, of Good Thunder; sister, Marvis Ann Davis, of California; and brother, Robert Martin, of California; along with 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
