Lakota, Iowa — Grace Johnson, age 95, of Lakota, Iowa, died Tuesday, July 5, 2011, at Timely Mission Nursing Home, in Buffalo Center, Iowa.
Services were held July 8, 2011, at Bethany E & R Church, in Ledyard, Iowa. The Rev. Doug Van Der Pol officiated. Burial was in Highland Home Cemetery, in Ledyard.
Grace (Heyes) Johnson was born on Nov. 7, 1915, in rural Titonka, Iowa, to Dick and Lucy (Ubben) Heyes.
Grace married Epko Johnson on Feb. 24, 1943, at the Methodist Parsonage in Elmore, by Rev. Mondale. This union was blessed with three children: Beth, Alan and Dennis.
For her entire life, Grace was a country girl and loved living in rural America. Everything about the farm life brought her joy and gardening was relaxing to her.
On Tuesday, July 5, 2011, Grace departed from this life at Timely Mission Nursing Home in Buffalo Center. She was 95.
She is survived by her three children, Beth (Dennis) Weringa, of Blue Earth, Alan (Kathy) Johnson, of Delavan, and Dennis Johnson (friend Cheryl Hanson), of Lakota; four grandchildren, Dennis Weringa, of Eden Prairie, Andrea Johnson, of Waconia, Krista Johnson (special friend, Jason Appel), of Mapleton, and Alicia Johnson, of Delavan; her grandson-in-law, Randy Phillips; and by her three great-grandchildren, Joshua, Ellen and Emma.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Epko, in 1963; two sisters, one in infancy and by Anna; three brothers, Ubbe, Ben and Eizo; and by granddaughter, Deann Phillips.
