Vernon K. Johnson, 68
Holister, Mo. — Memorial Services for Vernon Karl Johnson, age 68, of Hollister, Mo., will be held Aug. 8, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. in the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Wells. Rev. Kathy Fullarton will officiate. Burial will be held at a later date at the Rose Hill Cemetery, in Wells.
Mr. Johnson passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Mt. Vernon, Mo.
Vernon was born Dec. 24, 1942, in Amboy. He was the son of Carl and Mina (Gerdis) Johnson. Vernon attended Garden City High School in Garden City of which he graduated from. He worked as a policeman and then became chief-of-police in Wells and surrounding small towns. He also was an auctioneer and operated a used bric-a-brac store. Vernon served his country in the United States Army during the Viet Nam War era. On Sept. 16, 1988, he married Janice Shawler, in Mankato. This past fall they had celebrated 22 years together.
He was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Mina Johnson; son, Paul; and two sisters, Linda and Zelda.
Vernon is survived by his loving wife, Janice, of the home; daughter, Mary Johnson, of Wells; three step-daughters, Shelly Keune, of New Ulm, Lori Hinshaw, of Brooklyn, Iowa, and Kate Nulsen, of Chippewa Falls, Wis.; and five grandchildren. He also leaves behind Carol (Frank) Hagg, of Algona, Iowa, Pat (Bob) Halverson, of Blue Earth, Irvin (Jody) Johnson, of Fairmont, Elaine (Wayne) Patterson, of Whittemore, Iowa, Marian (Paul) Ziegler, of Winnebago, and Alan Johnson, of Fairmont.
