Blue Earth – Gertrude L. (Oehrlein) Walker, age 96, of Blue Earth, formerly of Sauk Center, died Monday, Oct. 10, 2011, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center, Blue Earth.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2011, at 10 a.m. at Patton Funeral Home in Blue Earth, with Rev. Karl Rydholm officiating. Burial will be in Benton County Cemetery, Sauk Rapids, on Friday, Oct. 21, 2011, at 1 p.m. Visitation time will be one hour prior to services at Patton Funeral Home & Cremation Service, in Blue Earth.
Gertrude was born July 5, 1915, in Sauk Center, the daughter of Leonard and Magdalena (Merten) Oehrlein. She was baptized on July 11, 1915, at St. Anthony Padua Catholic Church in Sauk Center. She was raised and educated in Sauk Center where she attended high school. She was married to Miles E. Walker on July 22, 1933, at Mayhew Lake in Benton County. Gert was a homemaker who resided in Sauk Center, Blue Earth and Fairmont before coming to Blue Earth permanently in 2002. She had worked at Tony Downs Foods in St. James and was a foster Grandparent to needy children in the St. Cloud area. Gert enjoyed crocheting, knitting, fishing and playing cards. She has been a resident of St. Luke’s Care Center since 2007.
Gertrude is survived by her granddaughter, Cheryl (Mark) Teems, of Blue Earth; grandsons, David (Denise) Pfaffinger, of Blue Earth, and Dan Pfaffinger, of Blue Earth; and great-grandchildren, Jeff Pfaffinger, Rachel (Dusty) Cole, Taylor and Trevor Teems.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Miles, in 1963; an infant daughter, Elaine; daughter, Kathleen Pfaffinger, in 2008; an infant granddaughter; son-in-law, Edward Pfaffinger; seven brothers, Ben, Emil, Ed, George, Albert, Nick and Jack; and six sisters, Rose, Mabel, Lil, Lorraine, Frances and Louise.
