Marvis L. Maday, 85
Guckeen – Mass of Christian Burial for Marvis L. Maday, age 85, of Guckeen was held Nov. 28, 2011, at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Blue Earth. Burial followed at Calvary Cemetery in Fairmont.
Surrounded by her family, Marvis passed away peacefully Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011, at the Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center in?Fairmont.
The Lakeview Funeral Home of Fairmont assisted the family with the arrangements.
Marvis Lorraine (McNerney) Maday was born March 22, 1926, in Guckeen the daughter of John and Margaret (Wade) McNerney. She attended elementary school in rural Granada and graduated from Fairmont High School in 1944. She married Louis Maday on Feb. 11, 1946. Together the couple farmed in rural Guckeen until retiring in 1989. They resided at Ingleside Retirement Home in Fairmont from 2006 until Marvis entered Lakeview in March of 2009.
Marvis loved cooking, baking, playing cards, watching Twins baseball and being with her family and many friends. She was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Guckeen and was an active member of the CCW. Marvis was also an active member of the VFW Post #1222 Auxiliary, American Legion Post #36 Auxiliary, Ladies Club, Granada-Huntley PTO and was a longtime member of the East Side Farm Club. She enjoyed traveling, making several trips to Las Vegas along with a trip to Australia and New Zealand in 1989. Marvis looked forward to her frequent visits to family in California.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Louis Maday, of Guckeen; 15 children including daughters, Barbara (Jim) Ring, of Chico, Calif., Marsha (Archie) Farnham, of Fairmont, Jeanne (DeWane) Mortensen, of Granada, Dianne (Bill) Gonnsen, of Sister Bay, Wis., Mary (Dennis) Broviak, Jennifer (Kevin) Nowicki, of East Chain, Margaret (Bruce) Hiatt, of Granada, Nylene (Matt) Sparks, of Baldwin, Wis., Brenda (Blaine) Sturm, of Coon Rapids, Lori (Mike) Whelan, of Oakley, Calif., and Elizabeth (Ben) Sparks, of Mankato; sons, Richard (Joanne) Maday, of Granada, Thomas (Jean) Maday, of East Chain, Louis John (Amy) Maday, of Granada, and Darren (Tevi) Maday, of Granada; 44 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; sister, Rose Ann Ewald, of Blue Earth; brother, John (Ruth) McNerney, of Blue Earth; sisters-in-law, Eileen Sager and Mary Garbers, both of Welcome, and Mickey Maday, of Battle Ground, Calif.; brothers-in-law, James (Terry) Maday, of Napa, Calif., and Larry (Emily) Maday, of Penn Valley, Calif.; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Marvis was preceded in death by her parents, John and Margaret McNerney; son, David Maday; an infant son; six infant grandchildren; sisters, Monica Post and Nylene McNerney; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joseph and Anna Maday.
The family requests memorials be given in Marvis’ name to the Minnesota Lakes Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.
